"However beautiful the strategy, you should occassionally look at the results." -- Winston Churchill, former British Prime Minister
As we prepare for a new year we first take a look back. New requirements for appraisers that include increased education and apprenticeship hours have taken effect. New forms and rules from the CFPB and other Government agencies have taken effect. And after facing significant challenges over the last few years, this past year saw some stability return to many of the real estate markets that we serve. Others, however, still face obstacles to a longer term recovery from the financial crisis that lowered property values, reduced available credit and saw a dramatic increase in regulation.
Despite all of the challenges in the industry we have remained focused on new courses, new ideas and a brand new website to deliver them from - all receiving excellent reviews from students and instructors.
Then there are more personal matters we must all attend to. This year we said goodbye to Richard Madden, our longime friend, industry leader and Senior Instructor, after his passing this past August. Rick had a profound influence on our school, our team and the individuals who still work with VanEd that knew him. His guidance will be missed, but his leadership is not forgotten.
We look to that leadership as we design new educational opportunities designed specifically to help professionals succeed in the current marketplace. We continue to work to bring new and exciting educational opportunities to our students. From new classroom courses including the highly successful RE|Con Conference where more than 400 people attended this year to the new Leader's Choice Online program, the Florida and Missour GRI programs and a full slate of Ethics and Commercial courses, we continue to expand and innovate to prepare our students for success. We will continue this work in the coming year, with new courses, programs and service updates that we feel will better serve our students and the industry. To meet the challenge found in the advice at the beginning of this column we have looked at our results and created new feedback and course monitoring systems designed to help us improve our existing programs. Look for even more enhancements in the coming year.
So Thank You - for your support and service, for your feedback, patience and dedication to the industry and each other. Thank You for trusting VanEd to be your education provider. We truly appreciate you being our customer and look forward to being your trusted resource in the coming year and beyond.
Our team remains dedicated to serving the best interests of our students, so if you have any questions or ideas for how we might better serve you please contact us. Today, as for the past 18 years, we are here to help.
We cheer your success and wish you peace and happiness in the coming year. May your station be better today than when you found it last year, and may it continue to improve each day.
Sincerely, and on behalf of the entire VanEd team,
Burton Lee, MAI, CDEI C. Vann Hilty, CRS, CDEI
